Just a quick update for all you Photobucket.com users…Photobucket has been hacked. It appears that the site has recently been hacked and replaced with content by NetDevilz. I have never really used Photobucket for anything serious, so the hacking of this site does not affect me much.

So, does Photobucket hacked affect you seriously? This must be a great source of frustration for the owners of the site, but if you are just a casual user, there are other alternatives to photo storage online and photo sharing. Here are a few ideas for other sited to use while Photobucket sorts out the hacked issues.

Image Shack is another image hosting site that you can use for free. It’s useful if you need to host images on the fly. The interface is easy to use and the website is not spammy at all.

The one that I use most often if TinyPic. There really is no good reason why I chose TinyPic over Image Shack or Photobucket for that matter. The only reason is because that was the first service I found.

Now, if you are wondering what use Photobucket or any other image hosting site will be to someone, it does a great deal of good for someone who is in need of temporary storage. I have some experience with graphic art, and when I am dealing with a client online, I simply upload my watermarked image to their servers and send the link to my client so that they can view the image and can then give me some feedback on the product. Thus, Photobucket would serve as a bridge and a great communication device for that sort of online business.

In addition, if you sell products on online auction sites such as eBay, free image hosting comes in handy if you do not have your own hosting plans where you can store photos that you want in your auction listing. So, I can imagine that Photobucket hacked will affect some eBay sellers who only know of Photobucket and not any other site.

Those two image hosting sites should be sufficient for the short time that I expect that Photobucket will be hacked. Of course, I haven’t the first idea who the NetDevilz were prior to Photobucket hacked, so I do not know that extent that Photobucket has been damaged.
